QFMA to take over DSM

The new Qatar Financial Market Authority will takeover the running of the Doha Securities Market in April, The Peninsula reported. The QFMA will be the regulatory supervising authority and the listing and licensing authority for domestic capital markets.

Bahrain's King Hamad bin Eisa Al Khalifa has said studies are needed to allay concerns about potential deterioration of journalistic standards should the market become flooded with newspaper titles, Gulf News reported. Bahrain has eight daily newspapers, six Arabic and two English. King Hamad reiterated his support for a free press to be allowed to operate in the kingdom.

Virgin Megastore in Dubai says it has no control over the number of tickets it is allocated by promoters of events to sell on to the public, and is not responsible for shortfalls, Gulf News reported. Virgin was responding to apparent confusion over ticket sales for a show by Canadian comic Russel Peters, for which it is a ticketing agent.
